Term One

My sister dragged me into watching this lemony Snicket Series a while ago. But before that I had been told it was absolutely amazing, but I still had no interest what so ever in watching it.

I was hesitant in watching the series because of all the bad reviews the film had received.

The siblings have been organized by Mr poe with a guardian named Count Olaf, who will do what it takes to get the Baudelaire’s back to him. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny always find out its count Olaf in disguise trying to capture them at every turn, making different plans in disguise.

act. 1 wk. 9 New Zealand History

History:

New Zealand dates back at least 700 years to when it was settled and discovered by Polynesians who developed the Maori culture. The first explorer to sight new Zealand was Abel Janszoon Tasman he found new Zealand in December on the 13th 1642 he was 55-56 when he found New Zealand. From the late 18th century, the country was regularly visited by explorers and other sailors, missionaries, traders, and adventurers. In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and various Māori chiefs, bringing New Zealand into the British Empire and giving Māori “equal rights” with British citizens.

Conflict & Growth

Māori came under increasing pressure to sell their land for settlement. This led to conflict and in the 1860s, war broke out in the North Island. The Much Māori land was confiscated or bought during or after 20 years of war.

Sheep farming was established on extensive grasslands, and Canterbury became the country’s wealthiest province. Gold was discovered in Otago in 1861, and then on the West Coast, and helped make Dunedin New Zealand’s largest town.

Social change & War

In 1893, New Zealand became the first country to give women the vote. State pensions and state housing for workers were also offered first in New Zealand.

New Zealand troops fought overseas again in the Second World War in support of the UK. However, the fall of Singapore shook New Zealanders’ confidence that Britain could guarantee the country’s security.

My dream

The car screamed to a halt, four men wearing masks jumped out and ran into the nearest building, I looked around. Everything stopped, people were stood like statues all around me, people in cars, men on bicycles, babies in prams all lifeless, frozen in time. I panicked, I felt my heart beating faster and faster as I looked around at the frozen figures surrounding me. The street was deserted except for me. All the frozen statues vanished, I felt lonely, homeless and abandoned. It got darker and darker at the time but I didn’t realize what the time was because I couldn’t stop thinking the incident. The air turned black all around me, I felt the cold wind rush through my

black leather jacket. I went home thinking and thinking about what had just happened. Do I call someone from another area? Do I look for anyone that hasn’t vanished?

It was a bright, frosty morning. The pavement glistened like a carpet of crushed diamonds in the early morning sunshine. Just as I woke up I thought about last night, about the dreadful things that had happened to everybody. I looked around. It was quiet and cold. the sun was glistening onto the windows, it was beautiful. I walked around the whole village of Ebeltoft to see if anyone was around. I shouted and I bellowed as loud as my lungs could. I saw something, a figure moved as if it was a human walking. I had mixed feelings I was relieved and I was scared.

I ran towards the “moving figure”. It was gone there wasn’t even one sign that there was something there. I cried and cried and cried I couldn’t stop. I used to always complain about the village being so loud and crowded with baby’s crying and people fighting, but now it’s quiet, lonely and isolated.

The next morning it was raining, there were miniature thunderstorms as the lightning was peeking through my off white thick curtains. I heard banging crashing, chattering, and footsteps walking I looking out my window, there were people. People walking, talking just like nothing had happened.

A woman entered the room. She stopped and drilled me with her intense blue eyes. She was in her mid-twenties, tall, thin, and blonde. I stuttered and stumbled all over my words as I was asking her what her name was. I completely embarrassed myself. She looked like such a stunning and pleasant woman. Thankfully she didn’t hear me because of the elegant yet undeniably loud music playing in the background. We were at the Little Italy cafe right on the water. She was sitting outside the cafe on the balcony looking at the ships and canoes passing by, so I thought it was the perfect time to introduce myself.

“It’s stunning weather today, isn’t it?” I said as my palms were sweating. Her blue eyes were focused on my dull, faint green eyes. “Yes, well what I’m used to is way hotter then it is here!”. As she replied I felt blessed with her calming yet subtle voice. “Wow. I mean right now it 26 degrees right now so what is the average temperature where you are?” as I said that I found that the conversation or chat we were having was lifeless and very brainless. “In Delhi India, it’s usually 30 degrees!” she answered. After she said that we both started talking at the exact time it made this conversation even more awkward than it was. I could see in her eyes she was wanting to say something then just As she was opening her mouth to speak a posh yet sharp looking man came over with his pamphlet and asked us if we wanted anything to eat or drink. I said to her, “Would you like anything? I can pay!” I said in a very elegant way as if I had all the money in the world! “Oh no I can pay!” she said in a very sweet and delicate way. When she said that I was tempted to say oh yes please pay! But being the gentleman I am I said, “I can pay!!”. She asked for a soy latte, and I asked for a banana smoothie. “Well, I should probably ask you what your name is,” I said not sounding as nervous as I did before. “My name is Sofia Ferrari, what’s your name?” as “Sofia,” said that I couldn’t stop thinking about how silky and luscious her voice was. “Wow. that’s a stunning name! My name is Daniel Esposito.” I said in a very subtle way. Sofia kept on staring at the canoes passing by.
